Cristiano Ronaldo gets one over Lionel Messi as the Portuguese earned more than the Argentinean in 2016-17 making him the highest earning footballer in the year under review.

On the other hand, Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho was the highest earning manager, topping the list which features the likes of Bayern Munich boss, Carlo Ancelotti and Manchester City gaffer, Pep Guardiola

Best paid footballers 2016/17.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) - €87.5 million.

2. Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona) - €76.5 m.

3. Neymar Da Silva (FC Barcelona) - €55.5 m.

4. Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) - €41 m.

5. Ezequiel Lavezzi (Hebei China Fortune) - €28.5 m.

Best paid football coaches 2016/17.

1. José Mourinho (Manchester United) - €28 m.

2. Marcello Lippi (China) - €23.5 m.

3. Laurent Blanc (without a team) - €20 m.

4. Carlo Ancelotti (Bayern Munich) - €15.8 m.

5. Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) - €14.5 m.

These earnings are based on salary, bonuses and income from advertising for the year under review.

Neymar showed once again why he is been tipped as the heir to Messi and Ronaldo's dominance in the Balon d'Or by putting in a fine display as Brazil all but booked a spot at next year's FIFA World Cup in Russia with  a 3-0 home win against Paraguay. Neymar was the Captain for the day, his first time of wearing the armband since March last year and he didn't fail to impress as he scored his 52nd international goal. Philippe Coutinho scored the first goal of the encounter 10 minutes before the recess after combining with Paulinho, who scored a hattrick against Uruguay a few days back. Neymar then scored the second from the penalty spot after 64 minutes. Marcelo put some gloss on the scoreline with four minutes remaining to hand the CONMEBOL leaders their ninth successive victory under Coach Tite. What a way to qualify for the World Cup.
